Why do we think we are immune to disasters?

I have been cruising around the news and I wondered, why do we always think that America is immune to disasters?  We watch things happen in other countries and tsk, tsk. We know it won’t happen here.  Things like earthquakes, solar flares, volcano eruptions, famine.  We sit in front of the television watch world news. Seeing the devastation, then get into the Wheel of Fortune or ET tonight and forget about it.  Really, what would happen if there was a big earthquake in California or the New Madrid fault line?  Are we better prepared than say Japan? They knew they are on a very active fault and built accordingly. California has built many earthquake-proof ( if they really is any such animal) buildings.  But what about the Nuclear Power Plants built on top of fault lines?  I know in Tennessee, the buildings are not earthquake-proof.  There are many nuclear power plants on the New Madrid fault lines.  No electricity to the power plants will cause meltdowns. No electricity will affect every way of life.  No food in the stores, no water pumps running. Depends on what season it would happen in. We could be baking or freezing.  Remember Katrina and the patients in the hospital dying?  It would be the same thing happening all around us.  Then you have the meltdowns of the power plants. Could we even grow crops or find decontaminated water?  Will we just slowly die as our teeth, hair fall out and weeping  sores from radiation take over?

Solar flares can knock out our whole electric grid. For months, if not years. How would we manage then?  You would see anarchy in the whole nation.  Famine would make us look like a third world country.  How many of you know how to grow your own food?  Could you make it until harvest?  Do you have any food or water storied up?  And the same problems with an earthquake.  No power.

If  Yellowstone blew, I think we could kiss our sweet patoots goodbye.  If Mt. Ranier blows.   These things are natural disasters.  I’m not even going to mention war in the middle east that could easily turn nuclear.  Boy, are I a ray of sunshine today?  But these are things that everyone should be prepared for if you want to survive.

About 1wanderingtruthseeker

I'm a fiftish woman that has opinions and passions about nearly everything under the sun. I love a good debate, not name calling. I believe in the Constitution , the Bill of Rights and God. I believe the government which governs the least is the best government of all. I believe in the rights of the people. I dispatched fire trucks, the Po-Po and ambulances for a long time so I have a wicked sense of dark humor and speak fluent sarcasm. I think out loud a lot times. I am offensive. But I'm offensive of everybody. Socially unacceptable, plain spoken and unashamed. If you don't want to be offend, please don't read and if you do, please consider that I'm not politically correct in any sense of the word.
